Chilly winter weather makes us crave foods that pack on the pounds. Although it feels like summer will never come, it’s really right around the corner. Time to start getting bikini ready! French fries are a delicious treat, and make a great addition to any winter meal. Get all the fun of french fries, without all that oil, with these yummy sweet potato fries!
- 4 sweet potatoes
- 2 tablespoons oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- black pepper to taste
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Peel non-organic potatoes, but feel free to leave the skins on organic potatoes for the added nutrition.
- Cut sweet potatoes into ¼ inch wide strips, trying to keep them all about the same thickness.
- Place the sweet potatoes into a large bowl and mix with the oil, salt and pepper. (If you like spicy fries, add cayenne powder in with the spices).
- Once the potatoes are evenly coated, spread them out on a lightly greased baking sheet.
- Cook for about 15 minutes, and then turn over the fries to cook for another 15 minutes on the other side.
To make a delicious dipping sauce, cook crushed garlic in a small amount of oil for a few minutes and then mix it well with maple syrup.
Eating healthy can still be fun, exciting and filling with the right recipes.

Nothing is more romantic than opening the doorway to your home on Valentines Day and finding a trail of rose petals leading up to a bubble bath, or bed strewn with flower petals. Rose petals create an atmosphere of romance, but they can also leave some major stains behind. Before you ruin the romance by creating a major mess, have your rose petal clean up kit ready to go.
After you and your love have finished soaking in a relaxing bathtub full of bubbles, rose petals and scented oils, you may find that the tub has a pink ring stain around the edges. After draining the tub and rinsing away any oils, spray the surface of the tub with a cleaner like Oxiclean. Allow the cleaner to sit for a few hours and then scrub away.
A romantic Valentines Day gesture, like rose petals on the bed, can quickly turn into a disaster if rose petals ruin the bed sheets. Avoid any problems by using a darker pair of sheets, or at least avoid using that really expensive set of Egyptian cotton sheets that you got as a wedding gift. The best way to get rose petal stains out of sheets is to wash them as soon as possible. Don’t forget to shake out the sheets so that you don’t accidentally throw a few petals in with the wash.
Rose petals are so romantic that risking the occasional stain is worth the romance. Don’t let a little stain ruin your romantic evening, sheets can be replaced, a night can not.

It’s no exaggeration that this is one of the coldest winters, ever. Most days the temperature outside is colder than the temperature in your freezer, and it seems nearly impossible to be warm enough. By wearing the right kinds of clothing you’ll be able to stay warm without having to spend a fortune on heating.
Wool has a bad reputation for being the itchiest fabric in town, but it’s also the warmest. Wool blends tend to be less itchy, but as the percentage of wool goes down so does it’s warming abilities. Unlike other fabrics, wool will hold in body heat even when wet, and is great for close to home winter activities. Wearing a wool sweater over a less itchy fabric will keep you nice and toasty, without being overly itchy.
Flannel is a blended fabric that’s soft, lightweight, and perfect for winter. Flannel sheets, blankets and clothing add a nice warming layer without being bulky. Fleece is similar to flannel and also makes a warm addition to any outfit.
Cashmere can be a bit pricey, but for good reason. Although this fabric is super soft and lightweight, it also keeps you warm. Try adding a cashmere scarf to your outfit for a soft, warm layer anytime.
Silk is usually seen as a summer fabric, but it also makes a great insulator in winter. Silk undergarments, or a silk slip under a dress, will keep you warm without being bulky. Who doesn’t want a layer of soft silk against their skin?
Whether you’re planning on outdoor activities, or you just want to be warm inside, picking the right fabrics will make the difference between freezing and feeling cozy and warm.

Playing outside in the winter can be lots of fun, but when your carpet is strewn with muddy footprints fun can quickly turn to trouble. With just a few easy steps, it’s easy to remove mud from your carpet.
Although your instinct is probably to try and remove the mud as quickly as possibly, it’s actually better to allow mud to dry before trying to clean it up. Wet mud is hard to remove, and you’re more likely to spread it around making the stain harder to remove. Allow the mud to dry completely and then vacuum the area well to get up as much dried mud as possible.
After vacuuming, make a simple cleaning solution by mixing two cups of warm water with one tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Using a clean, white rag dab the soapy water onto the mud. Be careful not to rub the mud, but instead keep dabbing the area with clean parts of the rag. Make sure you get the area completely wet without rubbing.
Alternate dabbing the stain with the soapy rag, and another clean, white, dry rag to soak up the stain. Work from the outside of the stain towards the center, and keep going until the mud is removed.
Using another clean, white rag, blot at the cleaned area with cold water. Dry the area by blotting again with a clean, dry rag.
By patiently and methodically blotting up the mud and drying the carpet, it’s super simple to keep your carpets clean and mud free.

New Years is over, and many of us made resolutions to lose some of that holiday weight. Keeping a resolution to lose weight isn’t always easy, especially when your favorite recipes are loaded with calories. Here are some easy ways to turn your favorite high calorie recipes into delicious low calorie food.
Non-stick cooking spray is a great way to cut unnecessary calories out of a meal. When baking or roasting, instead of coating the pan in oil or butter a light cooking spray will work just as well without the added calories.
Replace high calorie salad dressing with flavored vinegars. Vinegars are almost calorie free, and have a strong, tangy taste that will add lots of flavor without all the calories. Throw some fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro on a salad as well and add even more flavor.
Saute vegetables in a small amount of broth instead of oil. The broth adds flavor and cuts calories.
Substitute plain yogurt for sour cream in dips, dressings and even casseroles. Plain yogurt has a sour taste just like sour cream, but without the heavy cream.
Applesauce works wonders as a shortening for baked goods. For any recipe, just substitute applesauce for half the butter, margarine or oil and not only will the final product be lower in calories, but it will also have added sweetness.
Cutting calories doesn’t mean cutting out your favorite foods. Learning how to cook your favorite foods with low fat substitutions will help you keep your New Year’s resolutions all year long.

Holiday season is here, and if you’re planning on having guests over for a holiday meal it’s time to break out the silver and get to work. Most silver polishes are made of harsh chemicals that work by removing a layer of silver along with the tarnish. You may think you have no other choice if you want your silver to sparkle, but cleaning silver naturally is easier than you think.
To get started, all you need is a large pot, table salt, aluminum foil and baking soda. Line the large pot with aluminum foil, and place silver pieces inside, making sure that each piece of silver is touching the foil. Fill the pot with enough water to cover everything completely.
Mix one tablespoon salt with one tablespoon baking soda, and sprinkle the mixture evenly into the water. For the next step you can either cover the pot and let it sit for a minimum of five hours or overnight. For a quicker clean, place the pot on the stove and gently boil the water for about three minutes.
When you’re finished remove all the water and silver from the pot. Rinse the silver well with warm water. To avoid water stains make sure to dry the silver with a natural fiber cloth. Don’t use anything too harsh or you could scratch your silver.
To polish the silver and slow down further tarnishing, add a few drops of olive oil to the cloth before drying. The olive oil will make your silver shine and keep it cleaner longer.
For heavily tarnished silver you may have to repeat the process.

We get so overwhelmed this time of year that it’s hard to remember that the video game you’re searching all over the Earth for isn’t just an annoyance, it’s a gift for someone you deeply love. Turkey has been the traditional Thanksgiving food since the very first Thanksgiving, however in recent years a new favorite has come to town – the Turducken. Not exactly a turkey replacement, this new Thanksgiving treat is more like an enhancement on the traditional Thanksgiving meal. But what exactly is a turducken, and where did it come from?
A turducken is a de-boned chicken, stuffed inside of a de-boned duck, which is then stuffed inside of a de-boned turkey. Yum! This style of dish is actually centuries old, and is a type of engastration (when one animal is placed inside the gastic passage of another animal). In between layers of meat, you’ll also find flavored bread crumbs or other types of stuffing.
Turduckens can be made at home, but it’s best to purchase one that’s already put together. They take a few days to defrost, but they are cooked similar to a turkey. Many American’s like to roast their turduckens, but other’s prefer to deep fry them.

This oil comes from the Neem trees in India and comes packed with powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

It happens every Thanksgiving, you have that big juicy bit of turkey and right before you take a bite it lands splat in your lap leaving behind a big grease stain. Grease stains are some of the hardest to remove, but if you treat them quickly it’s easy to get grease out of your clothes.
The fastest and easiest way to get rid of grease stains on clothing is to immediately treat the stain with a high quality dish soap. Dawn dish soap is famous for it’s anti-grease properties, and this is also true for clothing. Put some soap on the stain as a pretreater and launder regularly.
Another great way to remove grease stains from clothing is to use an auto degreaser. You might already have one in the garage, or you can easily purchase one for a few dollars from the automotive section of any store.
No matter what you use to treat grease stains, time is of the essence. Always make sure to treat a stain as fast as possible. When treating any stain, apply the stain remover to the outside of the stain first. After surrounding the stain with pre-treater then move inwards. This keeps the stain contained instead of applying stain remover to the center of the stain first, which could cause the stain to spread outwards.
This Thanksgiving don’t let a few drops of grease ruin your dinner!
